Desirable “chrome bumper” model
This is a gorgeous presenting Silver Shadow Long Wheel Base ("LWB") sedan finished in Masons black with a black
Everflex vinyl top. It has hand-painted tan/gold fine lines to the waist-rails and hubcap beauty trim rings
complemented accordingly. The interior is finished in light tan Connolly leather. The Mason black with tan interior
combination is very elegant and classic for a Rolls-Royce. Certainly it is a hallmark of the era.
The long wheel base version of the Silver Shadow is easily identified by the small rear window (opera window) and
standard fitment Everflex vinyl top, it is 4” longer in the rear door. This provides a noticeable increase in
rear passenger space.
This car was a Californian car most of its life but little is known of its history. It did sit for several years.
When we received the car it was in good shape and certainly an above average example only needing minor cosmetic
refurbishment. Mechanically, we went right thru her bringing all services major and minor up to date.
The exterior of the car is straight and rust free with the underside clean and tidy. The paint is in excellent
condition with the finish high in luster and consistent all over. It appears to have been repainted in its original
colour probably some 5-10 years ago and so is pretty much blemish free. The quality of the paint job is high.
Overall, the exterior presents beautifully with all chrome and glass in good condition. Inside door edges and jams
are clean and tidy. The black Everflex top is brand new fitted by us and is to factory specification (with the
correct under-padding in the mid section).
The interior of the car is also excellent. The interior leather is entirely original Connolly from factory. The
leather finish displays the “toned hand-tanning” look that Rolls-Royce was doing for a limited time in the very
early 70s. The leather is not just a light tan colour; if you look closely, you will see a toned or "burnished"
effect which gives the leather an antique look. It is a very traditional look and is simply elegant. The interior
is without any tears or unsightly wear marks. The front seat leather is nice for its age and the back-seat leather
is super supple and soft. The headlining had a tear above the rear passenger section so was completely replaced by
us with new, factory correct pure wool broad-cloth. It looks stunning. Door panels, interior chrome work, gauges
and instruments are all in very fine condition.
The light African burl walnut was also done by Park-Ward and displays in the traditional high gloss Rolls-Royce
glass-like finish. There is some $3, 500 invested in the refinished wood alone. This includes all 4 doors, dash,
console and rear vanity mirrors. And, with the beauty of only the best of burl walnut, the grain in this Silver
Shadow displays a very intense grain and colour. From rich yellow ochres to rich reds and browns. It is truly
stunning.
Mechanically the car is in very fine shape. It has been recently thoroughly work-shopped by Park-Ward with all the
hydraulics/braking system serviced and working well. All services are brought up to date to include important
expensive items – such as brake pumps, accumulators, calipers, pads and brake lines, by example - having been
done. The engine truly purrs and gear-change is smooth and quiet. The car is very spritely in power which is a good
sign of a well cared for and good condition motor. The odometer reads 61, 500 miles and although not verifiable, the
car looks every bit a low mileage example.
Tyres are Michelin Symmetry whitewalls in the correct 215/75/15 size and plenty of tread and present well with a
thin whitewall. The tyres are not new and are perfectly fine for pottering around but if you intend to do some long
range touring, you may wish to talk to us about fitting new tyres. The hubcaps straight and the stainless steel
shiny.
A/C blows ice cold and the heater works well. Electricals are all serviced so windows, seats and features &
functions work as they should. All interior and exterior lighting has been checked with all bulbs and lamps
operating correctly.
